About Lions Club of Central

Lions Club of Central
  •   A  A  A

Lions Club of Central was chartered on 1st July 1992. The club originated from the Lioness Club of Hong Kong (Host) established in 1979, which provided the main source of our charter members. Our Club is one of the all-female Lions Clubs under the Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong & Macau, China . There are over twenty members from various professions and trades like education, manufacturing and trading, food & beverage, jewelry, insurance, medical service & executives. We share the common goal of serving the community especially the elderly. We offer our caring and loving service to the people in need.

In the year 1998-99, our past president Lion Judy Sin was elected the first female District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong & Macau, China. This is a glorious moment not only for our club, but also for the female members of the District. Numerous past presidents of our club have served our District as Cabinet Officers or Committee Chairpersons.

In the year 1998, the Leo Club of Central was sponsored by our club. More than thirty young persons from high schools and universities or in the early years of their career paths joined hands in service. We hope to train them to be future leaders. They learn to plan their own fund-raising and service projects to serve the needy people. The Lions Club of Central provide them with the necessary administration fees and guidance.

Lions Club of Central gave birth to four other Lions Clubs. In the year 2000, with our sponsorship and support, the Lions Club of Millennium was chartered. Subsequently, in 2004-05, two more clubs, namely the Lions Club of Causeway Bay and the Lions Club of Mid-Levels, in 2018-19 Lions Club of Huaxia Hong Kong and the latest, 2021-22 Lions Club of North Metropolis were chartered under our sponsorship.

Lions Club of Central and Chong Lap (H.K.) Co. Ltd. jointly organized a caring service for the elderly in Sham Shui Po. Volunteers distributed lunch boxes at the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Shamshuipo District Community Care Service Centre for the Elderly and home visited the elderly. A total of 150 lunch boxes and lucky bags were distributed during the event.

The 25th Anniversary Celebration and Children’s Dream Flying Colorful Day of the Lions Clubs Ho Tak-Sum Primary School. The celebration ceremony was officiated by Legislative Council Member (Education) Mr. Chu Kwok-keung and LCI D303 DG , Lion Sammy Shum. On that day, many principals of primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, educators and dozens of representatives from Lions Clubs attended the celebration.

There were more than 30 booths and several large inflatable castles in the school, attracting nearly a thousand families in the district to participate. The atmosphere was warm and full of joy. This celebration not only showcased the school’s achievements, but also promoted community connections. It was an unforgettable event.

Our association fully supported and participated in the event and received the “Most Popular Stall Award” from the school.

Our Club donated HK$500,000 to the Helping Hand Zhaoqing Home for the Elderly in Zhaoqing, which will be used for the optimization of the nursing home, modifying the rooms to add 14 single rooms to meet the accommodation needs of different residents.

The plaque unveiling ceremony was held in November 2024. The Helping Hand Zhaoqing Home for the Elderly is a large-scale comprehensive nursing home. Currently, about one-third of the residents are from Hong Kong, including elderly people with self-care ability, and elderly people who require low to high levels of care or suffer from dementia. It is also a nursing home included in the Guangdong Purchase Plan by the Hong Kong Government. The nursing home covers an area of more than 400,000 square feet. It is spacious and comfortable with a beautiful environment, allowing the elderly to get better living space and supporting facilities and enjoy a more ideal retirement life.

This year’s District 303 plan brought together more than 2,000 Lions from across the district to bring warmth to the grassroots citizens in 18 districts across Hong Kong. It also drafted an innovative donation optimization and improvement plan to double the citizens’ sponsorship. Lions from 125 affiliated clubs will jointly demonstrate the service spirit of Lions Clubs and continue to expand the scope of service and beneficiaries throughout the year. Lions Club of Central fully supported the event. It’s successfully held at Fairyland Kwai Chung, serving 250 residents and receiving strong support from many sponsors. Our DG Sammy Shum also shared our achievements, from 10,000 lunch boxes in recent years to 16,000 last year, and with the lucky bags, this year is expected to exceed 20,000.

Initiated by the Hong Kong (Host), our Club and Feeding Hong Kong jointly organized the “The Bread Run” to be a complete success!

Our members actively participated in the event, not only collecting special foods, but also personally transporting the food to Feeding Hong Kong in Yau Tong. During the event, we also visited the large refrigerator of the Lok Yuen Club, where the storage temperature is minus 18 degrees Celsius to ensure that the food is kept fresh for a long time. The detailed introduction of Feeding Hong Kong staff gave us a deeper understanding of the logistics support and distribution of food. Through this event, we not only helped people in need, but also enhanced the community’s awareness of the problem of food waste.

The harp concert is not only a musical feast, but also a spiritual baptism. With the generous support of the Lions Club of Central and all sponsors, the concert was able to invite students from six primary schools and kindergartens and disadvantaged communities to enjoy this musical journey together free of charge.
The wonderful performances of world-renowned harp players brought participants an unforgettable musical journey. The smiling faces of the children and the positive feedback from the principals and teachers are the greatest encouragement to us.
